Parents and carers play a vital role in helping children to express and explore their feelings, develop resilience and nurture positive relationships.  Children watch how their parents and other adults express their feelings and interact with other people, and they often imitate what they see. For this reason, it is essential that parents and carers receive guidance and are provided with the latest research about how best to nurture the mental health and wellbeing of their children.

Children’s behaviour is often a communication of powerful feelings that they are struggling to manage alone and may not have the words to communicate verbally yet. However, this can sometimes become a bidirectional struggle that evokes, even more, distress for both parent and child when they are finding it difficult to find a middle ground and understand with one another. With the right support, parents can become aware of how their children’s behaviours are affecting them. This can prevent the risk of falling into a repetitive spiral of ineffective communication which could further contribute to difficult behaviours from the children.
